Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs & stratton governor issue, briggs stratton, pan gasket

Question
hi mate, i have a 20hp briggs & stratton twin. after replacing oil pan gasket and reassembling bottom end, started the engine and it revs way too high. After realising it was a governor issue, i played around with the adjustment to no avail. Now my problem is that after doing some research and finding out the CORRECT way to adjust the governor, i tried again but the governor shaft will only turn about 2mm, almost like it is jammed? have i got an internal issue? maybe i should bite the bullet and take it to the shop as its doing my head in. thanks in advance
Harry

Answer
hi harry

yes it does sound like  you jammed the governor spool and shaft an internal issue

it should move a total of about 5 - 8 mm  total if working correctly

yes let your local shop take a look

tell him what you replaced when opened up  crankcase  and that you suspect governor jammed internally
