Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): OIL IN GAS, blown head gasket, fuel needle

Question
QUESTION: THERE IS ALOT OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE EXAUST, ITS WHITE AND SMELLS LIKE OIL. O OPENED THE HEAD AND THERE WAS ALOT OF GAS MIXED WITH OIL, WHAT DO I DO?

ANSWER: hi

can you let me know

what make and type of engine

ie briggs   ohv   single cyl

is it oil in the petrol?

or petrol in the oil sump  from flooding as if the oil level magicaly rose by itself

does the engine blow blue white smoke  and the inside of air cleaner looks wet with  a oily residue ?

almost sounds like you have a breather problem or a blown head gasket

let me know make and model and type number off the engine

QUESTION: it is a john deer riding lawn morer, i took off the valve cover and alot of bluish oil mixed w/ gas. the carb is as you say it looks like there is oil going in to the carb.  the type of engine.... i dont know but it has two lifters...so i guess a 2 cycle?

Answer
hi

if your engine has lifters & valves  its a 4 cycle engine

please check your carb  it may have debris stuck in the fuel needle valve and seat causing flooding and fuel diluted oil in the c/case   ( oil wil smell like petrol and will be very thin )

please check your oil level , it may be  far too high or  fuel diluted
if so change out the oil  and fill to correct level on dip stick

check the  c/case breather it could be stuck open  blowing oil back through breather into carb

or  if ohv  briggs single could be blown head gasket of which symptoms can be  blowing blue / white  smoke under load , air filter ( inside is wet looking) low power, muffler outlet is wet with oil

it may pay fpr you to let  your local shop take a look  after you have checked your oil level and checked for  carb flooding

let me know what you find
