Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): yard works trimmer wont start, piston rings, torx screws

Question
Hi Paul,
My nephew ran straight gas in my yard works trimmer!! It stopped running on him and I have tried everything to get it going again. To no avail. It is a Ryobi 32cc engine.  Thanks Paul.

Answer
hi chris

2 strokes need  oil in mix  otherwise  run extremely hot  and score up piston / rings / bore
massive internal damage    so much so    better to buy new trimmer

remove rear plastic cover and remove muffler assy - might be torx  screws ?  have a look at cylinder and piston and bore  through ex port   i suspect its scored / piston / rings and bore   usually is  with straight fuel  and damage is on  both sides of piston   intake and  exhaust

you will see  hat looks like a really rough rough looking  piston ( heavy scoring)  , and pushed up metal and possibly stuck rings , bore will show some damage as well

compression  does not feel good  !!!  hence  no go

better to buy new unit  as repair is worth more than new trimmer

sorry

cheers  paul
