Answer
Hello jim:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/ and Enter the Model Numbers (XXXXXX) and the Type Numbers (XXXX-XX) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF.
>>You can Locate the Correct Specification (Bolt Torque, Valve Clearances, ect) for this Engine at this Site Addy; http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/engine_specs/ and Select your Engines OEM and the Specification Chart you Require.
>>Check the Crankcase Vent/Breather and make Sure it is Clean and Operating Correctly.
>>If the Crankcase Vent/Breather is Clean, then
>>Check the Head Bolts Torque.
>>Sometimes the Head Bolts will Stretch Slightly and allow the Head Gasket to Leak and cause the Problem you are Having.
>>If the Head Bolts Torque are Correct, then Replacing the Head Gasket May be Required.
>>Check the Cylinder Head and make sure it is True. True as in Not Warped. Usually you can Check the Head for True by using a Framing Square and a Flash Light.
>>Clean the Head Surface with a Wire Brush and Emory Cloth Sand Paper (440 grit). Lay the Square on the Head and Hold a Light Behind the Square. If the Head is True, then you should Not See any Light between the Square and the Cylinder Head.
>>If you can See Light, then Using a Flat Feeler Gauge; Select the .008in Gauge. If it will Not Slide between the Square and the Cylinder Head, then the Head is Not True, but is Still within Specifications to Seal to the Engine Block Properly. If the Gauge will Slide between the Square and the Head, then a Cylinder Head is Required as well as the Head Gasket.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
