Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pony tiller trouble, engine model type, recoil spring

Hay I was working a pony tiller by troy built and the pullstart recoil spring came out and I got it back in the housing but when I put it back on and went to pull it it cam out the way it's opost to but it would not draw it back in like it should can you help me

Do you have a Tecumseh or Briggs engine?

Send me the engine model, type and code or model and spec number and I can look up your starter.
You may have a broke spring, sticking starter clutch or a bad starter pulley.  Each engine manufacturer has specific starter problems.
