Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 2 stroke mower problem, vacuum pipe, cold start

Question
Hi There.
i have a 2 stroke Victa Razor mulch mower with a VSX160 motor.it is not quite 2 years old yet.it has been going fine up until the other day.it starts ok in the cold start position.after letting it warm up,if i push the throttle into the hotstart/run position,it just cuts out and stops unless i quickly put the lever back to the cold start position.it refuses to start or run in any position but cold start. Any ideas on this problem? The filter is clean and the spark plug is fine.
Thank You.

Answer
hi barry

does this engine keep starting fine cold  then if try to speed up the revs it quits running ?

if so sounds like you may have a blocked ex port or muffler symptoms are will start and idle  but wont rev  , stall   in 2 strokes  muffler / ex port are part of fuel system

remove muffler and check ex port may be blocked or restricted as well as carboned up muffler
especially if running 25:1  2 stroke  mix

but also check fuel flow  from tank to carb  check that vacuum pipe from c/case button to carb has  come off - it controls opening & closing of diaphram connected to poppet valve in carb   and engine speed    check also  is spark  consistant , loaded and un loaded ,   check main jet in centre of float plate on carb  ( hold float plate in , dont let it pop out , they are prone to not sealing again unless you use new float plate  o ring ) check jet for restriction ?

hope this helps
