ANSWER: Hello Earl:

>>Go to this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p and Use the Information and the Test Chart Links to Properly Determine the Charging System on your Engine and Correctly Test the Charging System to Determine if it is Charging Correctly. These Charts and the Testing can be Used for Almost All Small Engine Charging Systems (Kohler, Tecumseh, Honda, ect). This Site Addy; http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/miscpdfs/RNT/alternator_id.pdf  will Assist you in Determining you Charging System on this Engine.
>>Depending on the Type of Stator/Alternator on this Engine, the Single Wire can be a Light Wire or the 3rd Wire going to the Voltage Regulator.

Hello Again Earl:

>>They Changed the Site Addy. I Apologize for the Inconvenience.
>>For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://engines.myfaqcenter.com/Answer.aspx?p_faqid=3438 and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs.
