Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs engines never start, fuel stabilizer, kolher
QuestionI have had many and still have many machines small mowers, riding mowers, generators, pressure washers etc. It seems that after a few years the briggs engines never start the Kolher's and Honda's are no problem. The Honda's sit all winter with gas in them one in the shed one it the weather but one or two pulls or a turn of the starter and off it goes. When you see a guy out in his yard pulling, and pulling about to have a heart attack you can bet it's a briggs engine. I now have a generator that won't start I don't know much but I changed the plug, when I spray starter fluid into the carb it seems like it wants to start but then it quits. I am tired of taking them in to get fixed the gas is making it through the hose to the carb but after that I'm lost. Thanks.
AnswerEasiest solution...always use Stabil fuel stabilizer in your fuel. Additionally, shutting off the fuel is additional insurance. You might have to add a fuel shut-off valve but it's easy to do.
Again, always use fuel stabilizer in all you small engine fuel. My issues with Honda are sticky intake valves. Kohlers, old ones were great but too much trouble with the new ones. They just don't hold up as well.
