Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman snowthrower engine, craftsman snowthrower, briggs and stratton

Question
i HAD a craftsman thrower model 536.887993 9 hp dual stage.  the engine blew. the service people, not sears service, told me they couldnt find all the parts for it. its about 6 years old. i was told that to put a new engine in it wouldnt be worth the cost over a new one.

now i dont believe they have anything to dance around because this service DOES NOT sell snowthrowers. would it be worth it to find a new engine and have it installed. i was looking at ariens snowthrowers. we have a big driveway and need a heavy duty one.  thanks for any info.

Answer
Jeanne,

Depending what parts are needed they may still be available through a dealer network.  Whatever the "service people" told you may be correct.  The tecumseh parts may not be available in the current distribution network.  Have you tried getting the parts from Sears?  If the service people have been in business less then 10 years chances are they are not affiliated with any dealers that have the older parts in stock.

I am assuming based on experience that you most likely broke a connecting rod.  Is this correct?  Can you tell me what parts you need?  IS the engine still intact on your snowblower?  or is it all in parts in a box?

Putting a new engine on an old snowblower frame like this usually exceeds the value of the snow thrower unit.
Snowblower engines are a specially designed engine...

Aries makes an Excellent Product, If I were to buy one I would buy the Aries with the BRIGGS AND STRATTON Snow engine, not the Chinese engine.
