Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi790r weedeater, torx screw driver, ryobi 790r

Question
I need to replace the starter rope on my weedeater.  I have undone all the obvious screws but the front of the shaft has a stainless cover which rotates freely and I cannot see how to remove it.  Am I missing something?

Answer
Hi mike

yes if you have removed 4 screws from the front cover ,and removed boom  get a torch and look down the shaft that the sqaure shaft would be put into   - you should see a screw ?

hold the flywheel and put a torx screw driver down the shaft and undo the screw  the drum will then come off , then you will  need to remove clutch from shaft , loc crankshaft by removing  plug and putting a heavyish  6 or 8 mm nylon cord into combustion chamber and rotate crank clockwise untill piston pushes up onto  nylon stop and stops rotation of the crankshaft - then remove clutch with  hammer and punch  making sure to remove it clockwise ( thread is l/h )and you can remove the rest of the starter assy to  repair the starter   be sure to use  new spring if need.

when assembling be sure to tighten clutch  anti-clockwise  ( use piston stop method)
refit drum and refit tighten drum securing screw torx  screw   ( in the middle of the drum)
and then finish assy.

here is a web site    it may help  http://outdoordistributors.com/pdf/Ryobi/RYOBI-790r-serials-512000001-thru-.pdf
