Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): solid state ingnition system, yardman snow blower, recoil starter

Question
I own a Yardman snow blower with a Tecumseh HSSK50 engine.  The spark plug wire disengaged from the cap, therefore I had to replace the solid state ignition unit.  I removed the snow blower cover and then removed the recoil starter to get to the ignition unit.  I replaced it with the new one and reassembled the snow blower.  Now when I pull the recoil starter pulley, I get a loud metal on metal slapping noise.   Is there a specific way to replace and reassemble both the ignition unit and starter pulley?  I tried to reassemble it the same way it was as I was disassembling the units. Thank you.

Answer
unit is  horizontal  small frame  snow king  5.0 hp   tecumseh

was the unit running ok before this happened ?
almost sounds like you forgot to give the ignition unit  0.0125" clearance between flywheel magnets or left the 2  bolts loose ,  or have got the starter cover dragging or rubbing on the flywheel, check for loose flywheel too ?  remove starter cover again and check for clearance betweem magnet and coil assy   there should at least 0.010"   if none  then thats the problem
if plug tip came off  it could jamnming somewhere inside ?

is there quite a bit of dragg if you try to turn over without the plug in ?
are you sure the starter is not staying engaged when it should be disengaged ?

give this a try
