Question
QUESTION: chainsaws about 6 or 8 years old but still starts right up 1st or 2nd pull! but recently it started not getting up to full speed! it idles nice but at full throttle it just doesnt have the zip that it used to an all but dies under a load of trying to cut anything! ive cleaned the air filter and fuel filter and spark plug but havent changed any of them,it only helped a little!fuel mixture is correct- what am i missing?

ANSWER: I would reccomend to go ahead and change the spark plug, fuel filter and air filter.
Then it sounds like a simple carb adjustment to fine tune the saw. OUr fuels these days have changed and will seriously effect the performance of small 2 cycle engines. If you can find it in your area, use Opti-2 mix for your 2 cycle oil. It will help lesson the effects of these ethinal fuels and may even bring more life back into the saw.

QUESTION: I sure appreciate the quick response!I have seen opti-2 mix in this area,an i'll be sure to try it,thank you!the only question i have now involves the carb ajustment.Must you pull those plastic caps off the ajusting screws to get a wider ajusting range, and then reinsert them? cant really see down in there very far to tell wether i could break something by doing that.

Answer
Yes you will have to pull those plastic caps off. The saw being that old, it may not require a special tool to adjust. Once you can get to the adjustments, set them both out 2 to 2.5 turns and start from there. Make sure you don't lean the high out to much. Allow the saw to 4 cycle at top no load speeds.
