Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens Snow-Thro with Tecumseh engine - valve problem, compression piston, piston rings
valve up
Hi.
My name is Krzysztof and I'm from Poland (Europe). I just got Ariens 10M-L60D snow blower with Tecumseh H70-130210D from my friend and after 2 hours of snow blowing machine stopped working (I was suprised muffler is red and machine misfires but my friend said it's allright). After checking all there was no compression, piston is running ok but there is very little loose on piston rings . Problem is valve on carb side, it's always up. I can push it down, turn around but when it goes up stays that way. Valve on muffler side is going up and down, and I can't turn it around like the other one. Should I take out cylinder cover ? Would I need new oil seals on crankshaft after that ?

Answer
Hi Krzysztof,

My short answer to your question would be "No."

Usually the valve need to be 'lapped' every now and again.

I am not certain what you are describing, possibly the language is different over there.

IF THERE IS NO COMPRESSION THEN THERE DOES SEEM LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE PISTONS.

I WOULD SUGGEST TAKING THE MACHINE TO A LOCAL SMALL ENGINE SHOP AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY.

GOOD LUCK,

HOWARD
