Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): DEERE L111- STARTING, electrical issues, l111

Question
QUESTION: HI JOHN,
I HAVE A JOHN DEERE, L111. IT DOES NOT START AT ALL. NO BATTERY CLICKING. THE BATTERY IS ONLY 1 1/2 YEARS OLD. WHEN I TRY TO START IT THE LIGHT S COME ON REAL QUICK SO I THINK THE BATTERY IS OKAY. I ALSO TRIED JUMP STARTING IT WITH NO RESULTS. I HAVE THE MANUAL AND I CHECK ALL OF THE TROUBLE SHOOTING AREAS IN THE ELECTRICAL UNDER " STARTER DOES NOT WORK OR ENGINE WILL NOT RUN". EVERYTHING IS FINE UNTIL I GET TO THE LAST CHECK WHICH IS THE FUSIBLE LINK IN STARTING IS BLOWN. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IO CAN FIX MYSELF OR DO I NEED TO BRING IT A DEALER?
THANKS
GEORGE

ANSWER: I always advise on electrical issues that the unit is taken to a dealer for the proper fix.

QUESTION: OKAY. I BOUGHT A NEW SOLENOID AND STILL WAS UNABLE TO START THE MOWER. I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE THE STARTER OR STUCK VALVES. DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT?
GEORGE

Answer
There are many electric issues that could keep the unit from starting with the key.
I always start at the battery. You said that you tried to jump start it without results.
Are both connection to the battery OK? Next after ensuring that, check the remote wire at the solenoid for correct voltage when the key is turned to the start position. Remove the wire and check again if no or low voltage is found in this test. IF the wire now has 12 volts plus, then you have a ground issue to the solenoid. If there is still no voltage at the remote start wire, then it could be a few different things. Such as a bad safety switch, or a bad key switch, or a bad wire or fuse.
Electrical issues are quite fun to trace down.

I wish the best of luck in this issue.
