Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): homelite chainsaw, engine crankcase, duckbill valve

Question
I am trying to get a Homelite XL chainsaw (UT-104444) to crank for a friend. It has good spark, but seems to be pumping oil into the cylinder. (plug full of chain oil). Pulled the oil reservoir and upper tube is cracked. One parts diagram shows this tube with a duckbill valve on it.? I did have to put one of those on the fuel tank. Is it possible for this tubing issue to cause oil to be pumped into the cylinder?

Answer
Been a while since I've seen and XL but I'm pretty sure the engine will draw oil into the engine crankcase if the duckbill valve is mission.

If you remove the bar and chain, drain the chain oil resivoir, and then try to start the saw will it run?  You can also use some hemostats to pinch off the oil line.

Have you checked the engine compression?
