Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Generator engine, 5500 watt generator, cap edge

Question
I have a 4 cycle Tecumseh on my 5500 watt generator. It starts fine and runs fine with the choke lever on start, but when I move it to run, the motor dies and stalls. Any clues please

Answer
Hi Robert,

Ensure that you have fresh gas (@ least 1/2 tank).

Ratio of gas/oil is correct, or if oil is separate, make sure the level is correct.

See that the fuel is reaching the carburetor, and check if the carb is plugged and working properly.

Check for kinks - detached or not set to specifications.

Check that air filter is not plugged.

See that the gas cap vent isn't plugged.  Check the gasket around the cap edge.  If the carb, is set correctly, turn the mixture screw for a richer mixture,

Check ignition points for dirt or gap defects.

Anyhow, that is some checks to start with and you can let me know.

Howard
