Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 5 h.p. on snowblower, arens snow blower, tecumseh engine

Question
I am having problems keeping my snowblower running.  I am trying to adjust the carburator but am having no luck.  If I let the engine sit for a while i can get it started, but when i try an adjust the carburator it will shut down.  I have located the fast idle(high fuel mixture?) on the bottom of the bowl and also the slow idle on the side of the carburator.  I am having problems getting the carb set and cannot keep it running long enough to find a happy medium between the 2 adjustments.  I get a lot of popping when i try and adjust and then it shuts itself down.  This is on an older tecumseh engine and on an Arens snow blower.  The snowblower of course sat over the summer without running.  I have had it running a few days ago for several hours but now cannot get it running for long. Any help would be great!

Answer
Sounds like the engine is running lean, not getting enough fuel.

Have you removed, dis-assemlbed and cleaned the carburetor with carburetor cleaner and compressed air from an air compressor?

The link below provides directions for carburetor overhaul and adjusting.

Let me know if cleaning the carb and the link help.
