Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): the wife broke my toro, engine deck, safety guards

Question
Hi Dave, the wife was out riding the tractor (Toro model# 28q777 16 hp ohv) & she thinks "she may of run over something".  Ever since it makes a loud rattling sound that gets higher with acceleration. I have checked for loose parts, have disconnected pully from deck & checked muffler. The engine has oil & was running fine prior & seems like it still is running good, but not sure where the noise is coming from. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Deryl

Answer
Deryl (and Mrs Deryl)

It sounds like something may be rubbing up against the engine pulley.  Check to make sure no metal safety guards, belt guides etc did not get bent and is rubbing against the engine/deck pulley.

You said you disconnected the deck correct?  IF not remove the belt from the deck and see if the noise stops?  Bent blade hitting mower housing perhaps?

Please let me know what you find... Happy Holiday...
