Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs Diamond I/C 20hp Timing Procedure, ed ed, connecting rod

Question
This is a Model 460707 type 2278-E1  code 9910205a.
I replace a connecting rod and prior to doing this I didn't pay attention to the original positioning.  I now get the engine to back fire after cranking over numerous times.  Can you give me the proper timing procedure. What cylinder is firing first???
Thanks.  Ed

Answer
Ed

There is a timing mark on the camshaft and the crankshaft.  just make sure these are lined up and your timing will be correct.  Make sure your flywheel key did not shear.  Sometimes if you don't retorque the flywheel nut it will shear the key causing the engine to backfire
