Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Huskee Riding mower 40 - 12HP Briggs, fly wheel, garden battery

Question
Mower will not start. I recently purchase this used for a great used price. I have put a new battery PS40 lawn & garden battery on it. Mowed with it yesterday. Performed GREAT! No problems started on first try. This morning try to finish up and had some carb issues that I fixed, but ran down the battery in process. jumped it with another mower battery but would barely turn over.
Now it just makes a good solid click and sounds like the starter is trying to engage the fly wheel. On closer inspection the "hard Click" sounds and feels like it is coming from the solenoid. One note: Dummy me...noticed the started was lightly smoking. I think I burned it up with the jump??? or damaged the soleniod.  Any ideas?

Usaually when the engine runs down the battery.it is because the battery charge rectifer is bad. Take the batery wire's off and get the engine started, then check the voltage with a DC voltage meter.against the neg cable and the positive cable from the mower.
If the battery charger is working you should get between 12.5 to 14. volts DC. The starter smoking problem is because the starter was not getting enough power.
