Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GX390 needs starting fluid to start, but runs great after starting, honda gx390, pressure washer

Question
I have a pressure washer with a Honda GX390 engine. It has started great until now. When I set the choke and pull the rope the engine runs for maybe 10-15 seconds. I have changed the plug. If I spray starting fluid into the air intake the engine will crank and continue to run on its own. I can stop the engine after it gets hot and it fires right back up. Why am I having to use starting fluid to fire the engine, when after it gets running it runs just fine?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Jerry
It sounds like it's time for a good carb cleaning job, making sure that all jets and ports are open. Also check the magneto arms and flywheel magnet for rust and/or trash buildup, and check the fuel tank for trash blocking the outlet. In answer to your question, It sounds like to me that a jet or port is partially blocked not allowing enough fuel to the engine to crank when cold. Or it could be a weak spark from the magneto when cold. Hope this helps.
