Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Aux Fuel, inline fuel pump, gravity fed

Question
QUESTION: I have a Yamaha ef 2400is generator and I want to extend the run time. I beleive the generator is gravity fed, so my question is. what kind of fuel pump can I use to supply fuel to the generator from an aux fuel tank? the generator has a 5.5 hp motor

ANSWER: If it is gravity fed you should not need a fuel pump just hook a longer line to a different tank.Just be careful that it does not run too long and overheat.Good luck,
Jason

QUESTION: Yes a longer line would work if I could put the aux tank on top for the gravity feed, but I Can't the aux tank will be a little lower than the carburator intake height so I need some thing to push the fuel up to the carb. Another question, why would the longer line cause it to over heat? Thanks again.  Rick

Answer
The only thing I meant by overheating is that if you make it so that it can run for longer periods of time by way of aux tank than it could overheat without a fan to cool it down? Probably not an issue but just wanted to check so you don't go through all this work and then have bigger issues because of it.That being said, you may find that it will get enough natural siphon from the engine to suck the fuel to the carb? If not I would suggest that you check with your local dealer to see if the recommend a small pump of some sort? You should be able to find a small inline fuel pump but again I am probably not the best guy to figure out how big of one you may need for your specific engine.Best of luck and wish I could be of more help,
