Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Riding mower stops running, fuel supply, garden tractor

Question
I have a 1996 Toro 520H garden tractor. It will start fine, run for a few minutes then the engine quits. After it sits for a while it will start, run for a while then quit again. Is the ignition coil the problem or could it be something else that's overheating???

Answer
It's probably the coil or the fuel supply.  You might try running it with the gas cap loose for a bit and see if that relieves the problem.

When the engine dies, you have to check the spark and the fuel supply.  HAve an ignition tester handy and check the spark as soon as it dies.  If it will keep firing, then pull the fuel line from the carburetor and see if fuel is flowing.  Let me know what you find.  Thanks, PK.
