Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S ELS V Twin Inconsistent Starting, starter fluid, solenoid

Question
When trying to start engine everything looks and sounds good but it never turns over.  Choke and throttle appear operational.  If I spray a little starter fluid in the carb it fires right up.  I can run it for 10 second, shut it off then start it without starter fluid the next day.  Give it two or three days and I need starter fluid again.

Any ideas?

Answer
Does your engine have a fuel shut-off solenoid on the bottom of the carb?  You can tell by looking at the carb...if there is a wire(s) you have a fuel shut-off solenoid.

Had a bad ground to a fuel shut-off solenoid once and caused the exact same problem you described.

Let me know.
