Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Peerless transaxle replacement, peerless transaxle, engine manufacturer

Question
I have a Stanley riding mower 17.5 hp 42" cut   the transaxle has exploded. OEM part is a Peerless 2000-002b ( Techumseh 794785 )
I'm not having much luck finding one but have found a Peerless 2000-006a complete with Hydro pump.  From the PDF parts ref. file these two look identical.  Can I replace the 2000-002b with the 2000-006a with minimal redesign? I'm not having much luck finding part numbers or help from Techumseh.  Thank you so much for your help and time.

Answer
Hi David,

I am somewhat sure that Tecumseh may be under a different name.  In any case this question would be best answered by the engine manufacturer.  If you can't reach any one there I would try to contact someone at the dealership where you purchased the machine.

Generally as a rule, I replace the parts with the exact parts as shown in the manual. YOu may be adept at dealing with redesign but I do not have expertise in this area.

Sorry I can't help you further.

Howard
