Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Checking B&S Solid State Module Ingition Coil, feeler gauge, magneto

Question
The B&S engine is model 10A902, type 2291.B1, code 01041955.(4 HP)  When the blade hit a stump the motor stopped and won't restart.  The pull starter turns the blade, there is fuel in the cylinder, but no spark (I installed a new plug.)  The part number for the Solid State Module/Ignition Coil is 793287 or 793352.  Is there any test or procedure to verify that this part is causing the failure to start or to check for some other cause?  Also are there diagrams/instructions for replacing this part.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Robert
You need to check the flywheel key first to see if it is sheered or distorted. This can cause a timing problem and keep the engine from starting. The magneto is pretty simple to replace. Remove the two screws that hold it down and remove the wire on the bottom. Reverse procedure to install. The gap clearance between the magneto arms and the flywheel should be .006-.010. If you don't have a feeler gauge, a business card will get you close. Hope this helps.
