Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Turf Tiger starting issues, key switch, solenoid

Question
QUESTION: My 2005 Turf Tiger just decided not to start with the key.  I have checked the voltage on the wire from the switch to the solenoid and it has 13v when unhooked from the solenoid, when hooked to the solenoid it registers nothing.  I am able to start the mower and use it by jumping from the battery and touching the solenoid to engage the starter.  Makes me think the solenoid is fine and the problem lies elsewhere.  Any suggestions on what to test next?
Thanks!

ANSWER: When you checked the voltage to the switch wire, was that with the key in the start position?  If you jump from the battery side of the solenoid to the key side, will the starter spin?

QUESTION: The voltage to the switch wire is when the key is turned to the start
position. It hits 13v then drops back.  When jumping from the battery side
to the switch side the starter does spin.  Any suggestions on how to check
the switch if that is the culprit?

Answer
I think you did check your key switch with that test.  It sounds like either it's bad or the wire to or from it is bad or maybe even your grounds are loose.  I'd start by going through the battery grounds and the wires, then replace the key switch if they check out okay.
