Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 2.6 cu. in.gasoline chain saw, throttle linkage, buld

Question
Bought new 5 yrs. ago. Tried to start but would'nt. Primed again and noticed fuel running all over. Removed case and priming bulb and found all fuel lines eated or cracked. Never used once. Found two sizes of hoses. The tank had a big and small hose, the big went to one side of the priming bulb and had the filter in the tank end. The other went from the tank to ??? The carb had two ports, one by the throttle linkage and the other to the other side of the carb. One of the ports should go to the other side of the prime buld, but which  port on the carb? And the small hose that went into the tank seemed to just enter the top of the tank but not into the bottom to suck fuel up, not sure. I was told by someone that the small hose is to vent the carb back to the tank. Tried running the other side of the bulb to the linkage side port on the carb. Tried starting after priming, the engine starts but quits after about 5 secs. The model no. is 358.350280 18 in. bar

Answer
IT sounds like you have the lines attached correctly, but may also have rubber parts that have deteriorated inside of the carb.  Its a good indication that if the hoses rotted, so did the fuel lines.  This is caused by the additives in the fuel.  I recommend a complete carb replacemant since you can try cleaning it and repairing it with a carb repair kit, but if that doesnt work you still need to replace the carb anyway.  Time is money!

Happy Wrenching..
