Question

Quantum recoil I was trying to replace the broken rope on my push mower Brigg Quantum 5.5hp but Im  not able to get it to recoil is there any way I can disassemble the one piece unit and fix the spring or what ever is in there I really can not afford to pay30.00 som dollars for a new recoil unit part # is 497680 I may be installing it wrong Thanks Terry

First, without rope in it, wind it up a little with your hand to see if the spring is attached. Be sure and wind it the same direction it would go if by pulling the rope. If it does not recoil, the spring has either come loose or broken. If it does recoil, wind it back up as far as it will go, then back down until the hole is lined up with the rope hole in the cowling and install rope. If it doesn't recoil, remove the center screw and remove and check to see if the spring is broken. Hope this helps.
