Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): changing diameter on 18 hp kohler, hp kohler, switch one

Hi, we have an 18 hp K+:"23 Command need it to replace a blown Briggs on our mower.The shaft on the Kohler is 1/8 inch larger in diameter is it possible to file the shaft down to the size we need? We are desperate! Our yard is almost 7 acres and we are mowing now with a small Craftsman! I need my big Woods running. Thanks Much

I suppose anything is possible, but it would have to be disassembled completely and put in a lathe to be done properly. How about enlarging the hole in the pulley instead?

Either way you have a VERY big job on your hands anytime you switch one engine with a different brand.  There are all sorts of configurations, ie wire harness, muffler configs, mountup issues you encounter...
