Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Pto clutch, john deere dealer, john deere

Question
I have a JD L130 when you engage the blade pto it blows the fuse instantly and kills the motor. The motor runs good until you engage the pto. how can i check to see what is wrong?

Answer
Unplug the wires from the pto, the plug is probably at the frame, and check for continuity to ground.  Then unplug the wire from the back of the pto switch and start checking for continuity to ground.  At least one wire from the switch is supposed to go to ground so a schematic would be very helpful. If you can't find a short to ground that way, then there's a circuit that's crossed.  Usually it's in the switch itself. If you check with your local John Deere dealer they will usually give you a schematic.  Sometimes if you email JD customer service they will email you one as well.  You'll need the model and serial number from the id plate which is usually on the back of JD mowers.
