Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 345, john deere 345, kawasaki motor

Question
I have the JD 345 with around 500hrs on it and have had problems at an idle for awhile. Full throttle ran fine. I just replaced the ignition, was not getting spark. Now I have that problem fixed not getting ga. So far i have drained all gas replaced fuel filter, pulled carb blew out and cleaned everything i can get to. I even put a wire thru the jets to check for being plugged.  I can dump fuel down the intake thru the air filter starts up and runs.  I did take compression it was 150lbs and 120lbs.  I know the fuel pump is working and the bowl fills with gas.  Getting pretty tough to narrow down from here. This is the 20hp liquid cooled kawasaki motor.

Answer
Pretty much all that's left is that the carburetor is just not allowing fuel to be pulled into the venturi.  To really clean the carb you'll need to soak it or have it cleaned ultra-sonically.  It sounds like there's just some dirt somewhere and a really thorough cleaning is called for.  The soak can's you can get at auto parts stores work very well.  And for the cost of one of these, if this is a one-time thing, you should be able to have it cleaned ultra-sonically.

If this were a Kohler or Briggs, I'd advise you to just buy a new carburetor.  If there's any corrosion I'd also advise that.  But a Kawasaki is a big step up in quality and the carbs usually clean up pretty well.  Thanks, PK.
