Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Intek 6.5 Carb Rebuild, fuel tanks, float valve

Question
Hi,
A friend of mine was given a very nice looking Scotts self propelled mower with an Intek 6.5 B&S engine, however, it wouldn't start.  I volunteered to take a look at it for her.

I pulled the carb and took the bowl off and, as I suspected, it was all varnished up.

I ordered a rebuild kit, disassembled the carb and soaked it in a gallon can of carb cleaner for 48 hours.

I reassembled it, placed new gas in it, and it started right up and idled pretty good.

However, when I increase the throttle, it bogs down and dies.  If I start it with the throttle on high, it starts up and runs fine for a few seconds, then bogs down and dies.

I suspect that while it sets, the bowl fills up with fuel, but after it runs for a few seconds, the fuel in the bowl is used faster than it is being replaced.  I pretty sure the needle and seat are functioning fine and the jet is completely cleared.  The only thing else I can think of is cleaning/replacing the fuel line and tank.

Any thoughts?

You may have a bad fuel cap some fuel tanks need to be vented so if the cap is cruded up you may have to replace it. Try starting the mower and loosen the fuel cap see if that helps. The only other thing may be the float valve may be hanging up shutting off fuel.Right mow it is running off the fuel in the bowl and when that gets used up it will stall.
