Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): ignition problem on Cub Cadet with Kohler 15 hp, kohler command, cub cadet

Question
Ben,

I have a Cub Cadet Z-42 with a Kohler command 15hp.  The engine is a Model CV15S SPEC # 41535 Serial # 2804205101 and family code SKHY26U1G2RB.  What happened is I had been mowing for 20 min. and stopped to pick up some branches in the lawn.  I engaged the brake, shut off the blades and moved the key to the setting that allows you to get off the machine and keep it running (it has a dead man switch in the seat).  When I got back on the mower I sat down and engaged the blade at the same time, and the mower quit.  I turned off the blade and tried to restart it and it would not fire.  After some looking I noticed that there was no spark to the plug.  I tried to jiggle the dead man switch but this did nothing to help.  Do you have any suggestions for me to check, or how to chase down an electrical problem like this.  The mower is model # 53AC305G100 its a 1997 Z-42.  Thank you for taking your time to help.

Thank you,

Tony

When troubles occur, be sure to check the simple
causes which, at first, may seem too obvious to be
considered. For example, a starting problem could be
caused by an empty fuel tank. Go to kohler .com and you can download your engine to help you use this address and enter you model number in the space.
