Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs 8hp flywheel, simlar, harbor freight

Question
I'm trying an engine rebuild, how do you get the flywheel off the crankshaft after backing off the nut, I don't want to damage the flywheel. Thanks

Answer
There should be two holes in the center of the flywheel.  Briggs sells a tool to remove the flywheel.  If you use the Briggs tool make sure you put flywheel nut back on the crankshaft just until the nut is flush with the top of the shaft.  You can rotate the nut a couple of more turn if necessary.  Basically the nut will prevent damage to the cranshaft threads.

You can also use a Harbor Freight steering wheel puller tool or simlar tool that has the correct spacing for the flywheel bolts.
