Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower not starting, lawnflite, burning fuel

Question
Hi,

i hope that you can help. I have a problem starting my mower. It was starting but on really low revs and smoking as if it wasnt burning fuel.
I cleaned the air filter and checked the carb and it looked ok. There was a second pipe from the air filter that connected into the engine rather than into the carb. It had come off but I am not sure if that was me. I reconnected it and put it all back together.
I then started it up and after about 10 seconds struggling the engine roared into life.

It cut out shortly after as I had almost no petrol in it.
I then filled it with petrol and it now doesnt start.

The engine is a 128807-0157-01 on a lawnflite mower.

Having had a look at the manual, I think that I may have an issue with the choke. There is a wire link going from the carb towards the back of the mower. I cant see where it goes but it doesn't seem to be connected. This could mean I am trying to start it cold with no choke?

I am not an engine person, so I hope that you can decipher what I am trying to say!

Many thanks,

Ben - UK

gov link
Remove the air filter and watch the choke when you move the throttle
control all the way forward, and make sure the choke is closing
all the way, and the opening when the control is moved back slightly.

It sounds like your governor link has come loose, how I do not know.  Attached is the page from the blowup, the link hooks in a hole in the lever coming out of the engine.
