Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B/S crankshaft, connecting rod, crankshaft

Question
I have a 1997 Murray 42'' with  a B/S 16.5 hp  single cylinder engine model 310707. The connecting rod is destroyed. I took the engine out and split the case. Discovered the broken
connecting rod. Also were the rod connects to the crankshaft it is scored up. My question is how do I get the crankshaft out.I appreciate your help.I need detailed instructions on how to remove the shaft to get service. Plus what type of company would turn the shaft. Thanks Gary

Answer
Well with removal of all that you have removed, if the crank rotates
it will come out, you have to get the cam/etc., out of the way.

The crankshaft can usually be buffed out without machining, as all you need to do is remove the pasted on aluminum.  Replace the rod and mow.....
