Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snapper lx1642h blade engaging problem, engine model type, briggs and stratton

Question
got mower, mowed lawn no poblems. went to start and was dead next time out, jumped battery, mowed great for about 15 min. then battery light came on and the blades quit turning(engine was still running great). replaced battery mowed about 2 times and then battery light came on again and blades stopped turning again, and it will not start. like battery is not getting charged, i can mow on full charge battery no problems, just not getting charged or something. any ideas?

Answer
Does you engine have a regulator in the charging system.  When you replaced the battery, did you clean the battery posts and battery cable ends with a wirebrush before connecting the battery?

The link below tells you how to identify your charging system for Briggs and Stratton engines:

Do you have a voltmeter?  Can you send me the engine model, type and code number?
