Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Fuel problem-Kawasaki on JD mower, fuel leaks, vertical shaft

Question
Dear Mr. Jones:  I have a JD-RX73, #MORX73X423746 with a 9HP ohv
Kawasaki
pull start vertical shaft motor [I cannot see a motor ID #].  PROBLEM:
Carbuerator?.  SIMPTOM: Engine will not continue running.
Efforts made to date and results noted:
1  when I pour gas into the air filter intake the engine will run smoothly
through that gas.
2  I have removed the fuel line and gas flows slowly from there.
3  I have blown compressed air at ~90psi into the fuel intake tube on the
side of the carbuerator.
4  I have added "Sea Foam" (SF) into the fuel.
5  I have poured SF into the carb. through the air intake and cranked the
engine a number of times.
6  I have let SF sit in the carb. overnight.
7  Re: the adjusting screw on the bottom of the carb. bowl:
A  I have tried turning it in all the way and then backing it out 1.25 turns
and fuel leaks out of the carb onto the engine mower deck.  It seems that
more than one turn will elicit fuel leaking.

Answer
The carburetor needs to come apart and be rebuilt most likely.  It will need to be soaked for an hour or more in a carb vat or cleaned ultrasonically.  This is the only way to thoroughly clean the carburetor.  Then iot needs to be reassembled with a new kit.  I wouldn't blow air into the fuel inlet with the carburetor assembled as damage to the float can occur.  The fuel pressure for most small engines is under 10psi, so compressed air could do some damage.

About 25% of the time carburetors need to be replaced.  If after a rebuild, they still fail to work, we replace them.  If we open one up and see any corrosion, we replace them.  Thanks, PK.
