Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Oil in Transaxle, sears craftsman, shell darina

1983 Craftsman 917.255 I need to check, drain and fill the transaxle on a 1983 Sears Craftsman LT 11 36 model 917.255371. What is the procedure and what weight oil goes in it? Thanks for your time.

This should have the Dana/Foote 4010-9 transaxle.  The book says 30-32 oz. of Shell Darina 0 wt.  This should be available at a good auto parts store.

I don't know that I've ever been inside this particular transaxle but I assume you have to split it in half and disassemble to clean the grease out.
