Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Oil in air filter from crankcase breather 318John Deere, crank case breather, 318 john deere

I have a 318 John Deere with the B43G engine, engine serial number is K853946997. The crank case breather then recycles crank case back into air cleaner is blowing oil into air cleaner area where it comes into the air cleaner housing. Is there something I am missing in thesystem. It almost appears that it is severe blow by. Can you help? Lyle

Problem: Crankcase breather passing oil.
Possible causes:

  1. Too much oil in crankcase.
  2. Engine speed is excessive.
  3. Oil fill cap or gasket is damaged or missing.
  4. Breather mechanism is dirty or defective.
  5. Piston ring gaps are aligned.
  6. Piston rings are worn.
