Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): how to read dipstick, careful check, changing oil

Question
i bought mower used, did not get manual with it. just want to know if dipstick needs to be screwed in to get proper level or just pushed in as far as it will go? do not want to overfill:)

Answer
Hello Tyler, dipsticks are easy however, never take a dipstick out of an engine when it is running; unless you want to strike oil. Make a careful check of the dipstick look to see if it has threads or not if the dipstick has threads it screws in if the dipstick just pushes in then that what it will do. Always check your oil on level ground and you will get the proper reading. Also when changing oil change the oil when it is hot.
