Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kawasaki Engine, kawasaki engine, hp engine

Question
I took apart my Kawasaki FH500V 17 HP Engine to replace an oil seal.  Now that I'm putting it back together I realize that I may have to re-set the governor.  Can you help tell me how to do this?

Answer
Hello Chris, sorry about the delay. First, find out what kind of governor you have,it will either be a air vane, which works on pressure on both sides; or a centrifugal. Most governors have four principal parts; governor gear, fly weights, spool, governor shaft.Get yourself a book from the manufacturer and look up how to replace the governor. Make sure you have pictures showing how to do this. However, the primary purpose of the governor is to control the engine at the desired speed. I hope this helps!
