Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): New Lifan 168F-2 hunting, throttle lever, lifan

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I have a new Lifan 168F-2 electric start motor which I have installed on a piece of farm machinery.  My problem is that the engine hunts badly if the throttle is set anywhere higher than about 1/2 speed, whether there is a load connected or not.  Are there any settings or adjustments that I can make to stabilise the speed?

Thanks

ANSWER: IT could be one of two things, either a bad carb or a gov spring setting.  I have seen this problem you are describing here in the USA often and it always has turned out to be the fine regulating spring.

With the engine running, hold the throttle lever on the carb and if the problem goes away its a gov problem, if it does not go away its a carb problem.

The throttle lever is the lever closest to the engine that has the rod and spring hooked to it.

If the hunting you are describing goes away then simply replace the carb.

If its a gov problem, very carefully remove the fine idle spring-this is the spring that is around the pull rod between the carb and gov rod  and snip about 1/2 inch of it off.  bend a new hook in it reattach, this should take care of the problem.

QUESTION: Thank you for the previous advice about the idle spring.  This helped enormously.

The oil sensor feeds into a small device which feeds into another small device then to the kill switch.  Can you tell me what these small devices are?

Thanks

Answer
I believe your talking about the little black barrel connecter.  It is nothing more then a fancy thingy to make the wire connections look cool, it does nothing more then conceal the wires.  You can pry it open with a screwdriver if u wanna look inside.
