Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): rider mower broken dipstick, sears craftsman, dipstick tube

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a Sears Craftsman 19.0 HP electric start 42" mower.
Model # is 944.605730
I was checking oil, oil filters etc. in preparation for spring - the entire dipstick broke off and presumably fell into the oil well.
I drained the oil, used a hook, tried to find it - there was no sign of it at all.
I added new oil, it started without problems but is it safe to use with the dipstick still "inside"?
By dipstick I mean the 8 or 10 inches that extends into the oil, on this model it is plastic and is broken at the cap.

ANSWER: Hello Paul:

>>If you Remove the Plastic Dipstick Tube you can Remove the Plastic Dipstick.
>>There is No Way (unless the Stick is Broken into Short Pieces) that the 8 to 10 Inches of Dipstick can Enter the Oil Sump.
>>Send me the Make, Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hello, thank you for your help so far.
There does not seem to be a plastic dipstick tube, it is metal and not removeable.
The  engine is a Kohler model  number – SV590, Type number  - - 0002.
Although I cannot see any part of the plastic dipstick that broke off I have no reason to believe it is in pieces – that is I believe it would still be in one piece. (I have no idea how or why it broke off but these things happen).
From what you indicate there should be no concerns with operating the mower?
Thanks again.
