Question
Have a 11HP tecumseh engine in a craftsman lawn tractor.Engine seems to be leaking gas around carb area.engine runs a little rough at times. Where should I look for leaks?
Thanks

Answer
It could just be the fuel line not sealing, the bowl O-ring leaking or the little gasket on the bowl screw or solenoid.  But I imagine you have a needle not seating in the carb.  To fix it, if that's the case, the carb will need to be rebuilt.  When rebuilding a carb, the only reliable method of cleaning is to soak it in a soak can or other type of immersion cleaning.  Then reassemble with a new carb kit.  If the gas is coming out of the venturi opening, then it's the needle leaking.

One other very important thing.  If it is leaking from the needle, then you will need to also change the oil.  Gas will leak into the crankcase when this happens and it can cause rod failure very quickly.
