Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryan 2-cycle string trimmer, stale gas, string trimmer

Question
John-
I just bought a Ryan (I never heard of this brand before) string trimmer from a co-worker for $30.00. Runs great but what do I do this fall to prepare it for winter. All my other stuff is 4-cycle so I change oil, clean air filter etc... Anything special I need to do for a 2-cycle?
Thanks
Jim

Answer
Ryan is an old brand that made trimmers for many companies and are in
a group of brands, I believe the parent company was idc, and they
were bought by MTD under the Ryobi name, but it is hard keeping up with who owns who, etc.., so I don't try.
These days the real enemy is old, stale gas, so it is a good idea
to dump it out, and push the primer bulb a bunch to get as much out of the carb as you can, then start an run until it runs out of gas,
not running it fast, just idle until it ryns out.
The air filters are usually foam, so they can be washed with soapy water.
  That is about it.
