I have just inherited a EX5000 that won't run.  It has been sitting with fuel in it for over 5 years.  I've drained the tank and refilled but that did'nt work so I started looking deeper.  After cleaning plug etc had no effect I tried squirting neat fuel into the carb.  It burst into life, only to splutter to a halt after a few seconds. It sounds like a blocked carb.  I've stripped down further and removed the carb but cannot see how to "crack" the carb to clean out the jets and innards.  Can I soak the whole carb in cleaner without destroying internal seals?  I looks like the bowl could be screwed into the main body but it could also be a permanent fit and I don't want to risk major damage.  Any suggestions???

Hi Pete, after 5 years with bad fuel, I would suggest a new carburetor. The possibility of cleaning it and proper operation after cleaning would be very slim. Replace the carb, it will be cheaper in the long run.  Good luck!
