Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Bolens 2028, reverse polarity, wire insulation

Question
I have a Bolens 2028 it has the safety switches and pto, my problem is it keeps blowing fuses i downloaded the wiring diagram and followed it everything was ok i have replaced the starter motor checked the coil i did however find the sparkplug unit to be cracked i have also replaced that still with no luck in desperation i rewired the mower by passing the safety switches to see if that was the problem it still is blowing fuses as soon as i turn the ignition switch on. I have also replaced the ignition switch can you help me?

Answer
Dis-connect the PTO.  There is a direct short to ground...a bare wire or switch.  Did you pinch a wire behind the starter?  Most of the time I find the wire insulation is wore through grounding the wire.  Most likely the problem will be where you can't see the wire or where a wire runs through a hole.

If you dis-connect every switch, the PTO, charging connections and it still blows the harness has to be grounded.

Is the battery good?  We had a couple of batteries reverse polarity a few years ago causing problems.

Let me know.
