Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pull cord wont rewind, spring assembly, recoil

When my son attempted to start our Craftsman mower, he pulled the cord as usual, but the mower didn't start and the cord didn't rewind. We finally got it to rewind but, now when we pull it, it's not engaging the engine. It looks like the spring assembly is welded onto the engine. How can I get inside to see what's wrong? Thanks.

You will need to remove the recoil blower housing assembly and replace the recoil assembly.  There are repair parts available, but its more cost efficient to replace the assembly.  Take your model number to your local sears service store and they can help you get the part.  You can also find the part online by going to www.searspartsdirect.com   Simply enter your model number and an illustrated parts list will come up.
